Such a fantastic weekend my head is filled with ideas, so many possibilities and things to explore.
Apart of the project I am starting involves the collaboration of three artists to complete a mosaic that will be under the clock tower in the Main Street of Longreach. To work with local children and community members and conduct some workshops to pass on our knowledge.
The weekend away in Brisbane was to complete a day workshop with an amazing artist Sandy Robertson from Oz Mosaics. To learn everything from different mosaic methods, styles of mosaic, materials, tools advice on conducting workshops, project management and more. Needless to say we went into the wee hours of the night talking, learning and absorbing as much as possible.
Just overwhelmed by all the support, advice and knowledge that we received was amazing and to see someone so passionate about doing something she loved was to be admired.
Coming home with endless possibilities and ideas. So inspiring to have such a great start to a project. After such a big day it was nice to feel we had accomplished so much and consolidated our plans. I think it’s every artist dream to be in a room of wall to wall tiles and to be able to select ones from so many variety of colours and textures. To start seeing those first steps of images in paper coming to life.
I’m glad I had the three hour flight home this morning to unwind my brain and bring it back to being a mother. My thoughts as I look everywhere are in mosaic and I can’t wait to see the developments over the next few weeks. To start playing with our materials and watching the children create works that will evolve into an amazing artwork.
